New Augusta Headquarters Library
Construction is underway!
On September 22, 2008, ground was broken for the new Headquarters Library for the East Central Georgia Regional Library system. The new facility, right across the street from the current Headquarters, 902 Greene St. in Augusta, will be approximately 90,000 square feet - roughly three times the size of the current library.
The new library will feature a 300-person meeting room, Friends of the Library Shop, teen space and computer center, study rooms, a Georgia Local History room, and Talking Books Center to serve the blind.
The city of Augusta has been hoping and planning for this new library for almost a decade. A committee of citizens selected the site and an architectural firm noted for designing outstanding libraries has finalized the plans.
You can help be part of the literary and cultural future of Augusta by supporting your library. If you would like to make a donation toward the building, mail a check made out to Augusta Public Library, 902 Greene Street, Augusta, GA.
